Breathe (and a mini cooper)

To use the term "busy season" might be a bit of an understatement. In the past few months, we've been working away on weddings, fall portraits, events and videos. And after 3 years of hard work, we've officially launched a fine art photography non-profit called Art From The Everyday. Our first collection of fine art images entitled "Walls" is currently in Pressroom. As a creative company, it's always interesting to work on such a wide variety of projects. But to stay creative, it's also just as important to make sure and take time to invest in the recharging process. As I type this, I'm sitting in a Starbucks in Frisco Texas after having attended a banquet/anniversary celebration for the organization we've worked with in Africa. The 5 hour drive to Texas was much needed time to dream and rest. And spending the evening hearing stories of hope and restoration and being able to visit and reconnect with friends, I'm now sitting here the morning after and realizing that I am truly blessed to do what I do. It's easy to get tied up with money and bills and equipment purchases and workflow processes. And those are all important things, don't get me wrong. But just as or even more important, is your ability to clearly see the difference you can make in the lives of the people you touch everyday. And it doesn't have to be clients, it could be the person behind you in line at the grocery store. Because we all know that by the time you get the checkout line, your soul is barely intact and more than anything, you just want to get out of there. In the season of busyness and holidays and to-do lists, it's even harder to find time to just breathe. But you have to breathe. And as a creative, it's imperative that you breathe deep and often. Because it's your clients and your work and your ability to "be" creative that suffers if you don't. I'm not perfect at this at all. More than anything, this is just an observation of life at the moment. And instead of posting photos of recent weddings and portraits and plugs to go see our fine art installation, I decided to spill a few of my guts. Happy Friday everyone. Remember. Breathe.
