Greetings and Happy Holidays from us here at Novo Studio. Now that the holiday season is upon us, we thought it would be a good idea to get around to updating our blog and social media with some recent work. Every year, it seems that the end of summer snowballs into fall. Work picks up, schedules become difficult and our capacity to continually update things stretches thin. But finally, here we are and my oh my, what year it has been.

For many of us, this year was largely defined by the severe weather of Memorial Day Weekend which resulted in multiple tornados and caused area-wide devastation. Many of our friends, clients and neighbors are STILL dealing with the impact from that weather and that is very sad and unfortunate. On a more positive note, we had a lot of fun with our work this year. In spite of some wild work scenarios and crazy deadlines, this year was so much fun and such a good learning experience.

Thank you to everyone for the support, the encouragement, and the opportunity to continue to do what we love.

It is now November and the last time we updated the blog was after weeks and weeks of busyness and travel. It’s safe to say that aside from constant travel, things haven’t changed much. And for the most part, we’re not complaining. In fact recently, we had a first for the studio…live music. And that was so fun, we’ll be doing it again. But consistent photoshoots and video shoots followed by editing and managing those aforementioned shoots does create difficulties in keeping up with the normal, everyday tasks of managing and marketing a business. But today, we’re making time and space to share some images from the recent weeks. We sincerely hope that everyone is able to make some space to enjoy the cooler temperatures, the changing leaves, and life in general.

The Natural State Criterium Series is back!!!

We had a blast covering the 2021 Red Bull Pumptrack World Championship Qualifier event last weekend. Congrats to all the participants and winners for showing up, riding hard and giving us plenty of opportunities to capture the action, excitement, emotion and friendly atmosphere. A couple weeks ago, we had the unique opportunity to spend time with two of the world’s great professional cyclists, Rahsaan Bahati and Eliot Jackson. The two riders spent the week hanging out and enjoying our area’s various cycling amenities while also working with the our area’s local chapter of BikePOC and BikeNWA, to promote the process of creating intentional spaces for BIPOC and other marginalized peoples to explore cycling in Northwest Arkansas.

On a recent photoshoot, the inevitable happened; I dropped an expensive studio flash while I was handholding it to get a certain shot. I don’t know how or why, it just slipped out of my hand. These things happen in a photographer’s line of work and that’s why you (hopefully) have insurance. I do carry insurance and after some deliberation, some research and some “go with your gut instinct, I began the process of switching up my studio lighting setup from Profoto to Godox.

Today on the blog: Recent work for Pacific Cycle. a division of Dorel Sports. We were recently hired to create some marketing images for a new Schwinn Road/Off-Road bicycle. They told us specifically that they wanted a cyclocross course feel along with mud splattering. We happily obliged by setting up a makeshift course and hiring a cyclist model to ride through all kinds of terrain, especially splish splashy stuff. It was a nice bonus that the night before the shoot, it actually rained so there was plenty of mud to splatter about in. In the end, we came away with some amazing images and very dirty bicycle, which we tried to clean up before returning (but I’m afraid we missed some spots).

It seems surreal to be writing a blog post during these unprecedented times. Just 2 weeks ago, the signs of spring and the workload that typically follows, was buzzing with activity and promise. And then, everything literally stopped.

Literally.

Stopped.

In the days that followed…

How do you compile a decade’s worth of images and stories into a single blog post? If you ever figure it out, please let me know. In the meantime, this a best attempt at highlighting some of the ongoing clients, fun jobs and unique ingredients that have compiled the last 10 years of Novo Studio.

Today on the blog, we’re sharing a recap of the Red Star Enduro Race. This particular event was held on the beautiful and secluded trails of the Buffalo Headwaters. These are without a doubt, some of the most beautiful and remote trails in the state. As you might imagine, there were some logistical challenges but we overcame them unscathed, minus the loss of a walkie talkie. Enjoy the photos and recap video below. Cheers!
