After a crazy busy year of work plus the added drama of losing a parent and undergoing a surgery to repair an umbilical hernia, I think it's safe to say that I need to slow down for awhile.

Greetings and Happy Holidays from us here at Novo Studio. Now that the holiday season is upon us, we thought it would be a good idea to get around to updating our blog and social media with some recent work. Every year, it seems that the end of summer snowballs into fall. Work picks up, schedules become difficult and our capacity to continually update things stretches thin. But finally, here we are and my oh my, what year it has been.

For many of us, this year was largely defined by the severe weather of Memorial Day Weekend which resulted in multiple tornados and caused area-wide devastation. Many of our friends, clients and neighbors are STILL dealing with the impact from that weather and that is very sad and unfortunate. On a more positive note, we had a lot of fun with our work this year. In spite of some wild work scenarios and crazy deadlines, this year was so much fun and such a good learning experience.

Thank you to everyone for the support, the encouragement, and the opportunity to continue to do what we love.

Meet Emily Wold: Little Rock Resident, Successful Homesteader, Motorcycle Enthusiast, and the brains, brawn and vocal cords behind her wildly successful VoiceOver business, Fable Hound.

It is now November and the last time we updated the blog was after weeks and weeks of busyness and travel. It’s safe to say that aside from constant travel, things haven’t changed much. And for the most part, we’re not complaining. In fact recently, we had a first for the studio…live music. And that was so fun, we’ll be doing it again. But consistent photoshoots and video shoots followed by editing and managing those aforementioned shoots does create difficulties in keeping up with the normal, everyday tasks of managing and marketing a business. But today, we’re making time and space to share some images from the recent weeks. We sincerely hope that everyone is able to make some space to enjoy the cooler temperatures, the changing leaves, and life in general.

Happy Fall, Y’all.

Clicking camera buttons and keyboard keys all day leaves me itching to decompress by getting my hands dirty. Oftentimes, that happens by riding a bike (in which case, it’s my legs that get dirty). But I also enjoy cooking and as most everyone who has even flirted with the idea of learning to cook better, good food begins with good ingredients. Today on the blog: Recent commercial photography work for Architect, Caitlin Kelley | MArch AIA NCARB. Caitlin is an award-winning architect, specializing in high-end custom residential design and unique commercial projects. Prior to moving to Bentonville Arkansas to work on the Tourmaline Urban Lofts project, Caitlin resided in Southern California where she worked as an architect on residential and commercial projects while also working as an adjunct professor for the NewSchool of Architecture + Design in San Diego, California.

Among her talents and qualifications as an architect, Caitlin also enjoys painting and playing the piano. In fact prior to being an architect, Caitlin worked as a professional musician. We recently had the opportunity to work with Caitlin to create some updated marketing imagery for her new brand design and website (currently in the works by the extremely talented Jacobs and Co.). Today on the blog: A compilation of recent commercial headshots and professional portraits of some of the best people in our little corner of the state. Our headshot and portrait clients range from people featured in magazine articles, to real estate agents, to college professors, food and beverage workers, healthcare professionals, and even (as you’ll see below), professional cyclists. On average, 75 to 80 percent of the people we work with say “I hate having my picture taken.” And that’s ok, because we hate having our pictures taken too. No seriously, we do. But having that connection makes us empathetic towards the people we work with and we try to make the whole process as quick, as painless and as easy going as we can make it. It’s always intriguing to meet new people and learn more about their line of work during the process of creating their portraits. And as you can see from the photos, we tend to have a bit of fun too. If you or someone you know needs updated professional headshots or commercial photography, feel free to contact us.

On a recent photoshoot, the inevitable happened; I dropped an expensive studio flash while I was handholding it to get a certain shot. I don’t know how or why, it just slipped out of my hand. These things happen in a photographer’s line of work and that’s why you (hopefully) have insurance. I do carry insurance and after some deliberation, some research and some “go with your gut instinct, I began the process of switching up my studio lighting setup from Profoto to Godox.

Today on the blog, we sharing some recent portrait work. Portrait photography for us ranges from our typical commercial clients, to high school seniors and families (especially in the fall months). Today’s blog post is made up of University of Arkansas School of Art Faculty members, insurance brokers, lawyers, families, high school seniors, individuals featured in AY Magazine, investment firm associates, a couple celebrating their 25 year wedding anniversary and new associates for Marlon Blackwell Architects. Although most of the stuff we share through our social media channels is commercial work, we feel it is important to note that with regards to portrait photography, we love to work with families, high school seniors and other individuals as well.
