It’s been a busy few months for the fine folks at Blake Street House. In recent weeks, they’ve managed to revamp, rework and launch three new internal food and beverage concepts for members and guests. And I can safely say that all three are delicious and exciting.

Late last year, we had the opportunity to hang out and capture some content for Hospitality America and their new hotel, The Motto in Downtown Bentonville. The Motto, part of the Hilton chain of hotels, is a thoughtfully curated space oozing with a hip coolness and a warm welcome. We visited the property for both the soft opening as well as the grand opening and produced a collection of images and a video highlighting the event and the space. And today, we are happy to share some of that content here on our blog. Enjoy.

By now, many of you have probably heard about Bentoville, their world class cuisine and their equally accomplished chefs. Maybe you’ve experienced one of their amazing events in person. Or perhaps you’ve simply ordered one (or more) of their Bento Boxes for lunch or dinner. But if you HAVEN’T heard of Bentoville…

Today is the day! Blake Street’s new pop up bar opens to members and guests. Eldi, a Nordic themed outdoor bar features small plates and drinks heavily influenced by the region. On cold days and nights, guests can huddle around the open fire or underneath any of the outdoor heaters and enjoy the carefully curated menu items. And if you’re looking for a little excitement in your life, you can try your hand at knife or axe throwing.

As always, the fine people at Blake Street have worked hard to come up with a unique concept that allows members and guests to embrace the winter months while also providing an educational and inspiration food and beverage experience. And we certainly had a blast creating the images to introduce Eldi to the public.

As a self-proclaimed “inexperienced” and “picky” seafood eater, I cannot and will not claim to have a vast knowledge of the world of sushi. My experience with fish and seafood is largely based on odors. These include both the odor of dead fish I recall from my childhood days at the lake and also, the trauma of riding homeward for 2+ days in the family van which was loaded with styrofoam coolers full of fresh seafood from the gulf coast. These were acquired in the dead heat of summer during our annual beach trip vacation. These two prominent experiences left me inevitably skeptical of seafood in general.

I always value my time working with people in the food service industry, especially Chefs. For a Chef to take precious time out of their prep work to accommodate a photographer in their own restaurant space is the kindest of gestures. And that’s exactly what Chef Rafael Rios of Yeyo’s did for me recently, when Arkansas Times hired me to photograph him and his space for a magazine article. Prior to the shoot, Chef Rios told me to “Come Hungry”.

It’s been one heck of a busy season for us here at Novo Studio and for that, we are grateful. But we’re also tired and aside from a few random stories and update posts, largely neglected our blog and social media channels. We recently had the opportunity to hang out with the fine folks from the Bentonville Water Utilities Department, thanks to a chance meeting with one of the higher-ups at a recent Vanarky in the Ozarks Event. Before long, we had a plan to meet for a day of photography + water utilities education. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again every time it’s relevant; One of the best parts of this job is learning about other people’s line of work. And for a major city’s water utilities department, there’s a lot to experience. And after a full day of photographing different scenarios, tools and departments, we came away with a library of images that clearly and thoroughly showcases many of the water utilities day-to-day responsibilities in visual form. Candace is a wonderful human being and a true joy to be around. She is active and supportive in the community, especially when it comes to live music. Recently, we paid a visit to the newly opened Osage Park, located in Bentonville Arkansas. The Peel Compton Foundation tasked us with providing them some marketing photos, highlighting the beautiful natural settings as well as the stunning architecture designs and details of the spaces. Today on the blog, new work for the University of Arkansas’s Center for Farms and Food. For this photoshoot, we payed a visit to the farm at Red Barn in Bentonville, the first official residential community with an operational farm on the property. This model of living is known as an agrihood and Red Barn is the first of its kind in the state of Arkansas. Among its fresh food amenities, Red Barn also boasts beautiful living spaces, indoor/outdoor community gathering spaces and direct access to Bentonville’s nearby mountain biking trails. And of course, residents (and non-residents alike) have the wonderful, year-round, farm-to-table experience of knowing EXACTLY where their produce comes from.
