Drummond Family Racing | Northwest Arkansas Editorial Photography

If you've raced mountain bikes at all, you've probably heard of the Drummond Family. And if you've seen their names in the race results, chances are they were towards the top if not on it. That's because for this family, mountain biking is their sport. And when I say "sport", I mean that in the truest sense of the word. Everything from schedules, to nutrition, to daily exercise routine revolves around their chosen sport of mountain biking. What started out as a family activity quickly turned into a hobby and then, a passion. I was fortunate enough to spend a recent Saturday with them creating images for the upcoming issue of Bike Arkansas Magazine. Here's a few of my favorites. Enjoy.

Hydrate & Create | Northwest Arkansas Photography

Many photographers (myself included) have jumped on the Sam Hurd bandwagon by waving glass prisms in front of their lenses while creating images. And why not? It's unique, unexpected and given the right light, can produce some beautiful results. But on a recent video shoot, I discovered that you could create a similar effect by using a Nalgene Water Bottle.

Here are the details.

Perrodin Supply Co. | Northwest Arkansas Commercial Photography

Say hello to Jonathan & Amber Perrodin. Together, they are Perrodin Supply Co. And for the record, they are also responsible for The Little Craft Show and #TeamSpringdale. They work out of a beautifully rough workspace that they call, "The Hatchery". Located in the downtown Springdale area, the Perrodins spend their days creating beautiful things. Amber has a background in Printmaking and also enjoys creating mixed media pieces while Jonathan enjoys woodworking and makes canvases and wooden decor.

I had the opportunity to hang out with Jonathan and Amber in their workspace, camera in-hand. Here are a few images from our morning together. Look for them in the upcoming issue of Arkansas Made Magazine.

Phat Tire Race Team | Northwest Arkansas Editorial Photography

Say hello to the Phat Tire Racing Team. But make it quick, because they'll be long gone before you get to the double ll's. These riders are the real deal. They train together, race together, hang out and even volunteer together. And while they train on all of the nearby trials, their home turf is the Slaughter Pen Mountain Bike trails of Bentonville Arkansas. This particular trail system is certified as a Silver Level Ride Center by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA), making it a destination for out-of-towners and local riders alike. I recently had the opportunity to hang out with some of the riders that make up the Phat Tire Racing Team and I managed to get them to slow down enough for a few photos. Look for the complete story in the upcoming issue of Bike Arkansas Magazine. Cheers.

Red Barn Studio Live Sessions | Benjamin Del Shreve

I once again had the opportunity to collaborate with local talent to create a music video for local artist and celebrity, Benjamin Del Shreve. Benjamin (who usually plays with a full band), brought technology (aka a BOSS RC-300 loop station for all you gear nerds out there), choosing to loop several instruments and vocal patterns on top of each other and then, sing along. The result was incredible and we're excited to share it with you. Once again, thanks to Jason Miller at Red Barn Studio for recording, Murray Williams of Murdog Creative for organizing, directing and producing, the video, to Bryan Fittin of 6th & Burnside for being an all-around great personality to spend the evening with and to Benjamin Del Shreve, for rocking our lenses and our faces off. Here's a few behind the scenes images along with the video. Enjoy!

** Note ** Red Barn Studio Live Sessions is a collaborative effort to promote new and existing local music talent. It is also an opportunity for creatives to have a "jam session" of their own and to contribute to a fun project. If you're a musician or group and you are completely awesome at what you do, let us know.

Red Barn Studio Live Sessions | Chanika McLelland

I recently had the opportunity to participate in a multi-camera video shoot for music artist Chanika McLelland. We all gathered at Red Barn Studio, setup multiple angles and recorded while Chanika recorded a beautiful rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide". Owner and producer Jason Miller captured some of the best sounding audio I've heard come out of a local studio and Murray Williams (Murdog Creative) produced an amazing video compiling all of the footage captured. It was a lot of fun working alongside these guys as well as Michael Drager, Bryan Fittin and Murray's son, Wyatt. Here's a few still images captured during the evening as well as a link to the final product. Enjoy!

Meet Ruth Hansen | Northwest Arkansas Adoption

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. The local flower shops are busy taking orders, restaurants are filling up with reservations and of course all of the Walmart stores are overstuffed and overstocked with candies and balloons. And while it’s true that this holiday makes most of us think of love in a cute and romantic sort of way, we are taking today to celebrate a different kind of love.
