I recently had the opportunity to work on a project for Cycling Illustrated Magazine, OZ Trails NWA and Laneshift Mobility.  The project features legendary mountain bike racer Brian Lopes and his first trip to the area. I had the honor and privilege of spending a couple days with Him, along with Andre Pepin of Ellsworth Bikes and locals Clayton Woodruff of Progressive Trail Designs and Dustin Slaughter of Slaughter Trail Guides. It was a unique opportunity for me to not only witness first-hand some of the best mountain biking I've ever seen, but also to create images of it. Happy Happy Monday to you all. Today, I'm posting a few photos of these two love birds. I had the privilege of meeting of them last weekend for their engagement photos. We spent some time in the good city of Fayetteville while sharing stories and laughs. Here's a few of my favorite images from the evening. Enjoy. 

This week, I am honored to be featured on the Bear State Bank blog. I've been working with Bear State for years now and they are great clients and good friends of mine.  I've visited most of their branches in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma and I have to say that in all honesty, every one of those branches is operated by friendly, hospitable and knowledgable people. I love being a part of their ever-growing business and laid back, personable culture. Thank you all so much for the feature.

Congratulations to Jeff and Sarah who were married over the weekend in what I can only describe, as the worst wedding day weather I've encountered in over 10 years of photographing weddings. It's only been a couple of weeks since my trip to Wiser Time, but it seems as if it's been longer. Wiser Time as best as I can describe it, is a name given to a magical place by a magical group of people who find it imperative to disconnect from the fast-paced hustle and bustle of everyday life in order to refresh and recharge. And while there is some debate over the true origin and meaning of the name, most can agree that it directly relates to the physical, mental and spiritual healing qualities that come from intentionally removing oneself civilization and spending time in the great outdoors. Many thanks to the guys who introduced me to this magical place and in doing so, encouraged me to remove myself from everyday life more often. 

Amidst my time off, I have had the opportunity to work on a few commercial and lifestyle projects. This was easily one of my favorites. Micah Goodwin is a resident of Little Rock, Arkansas. When he's not working his day job as a lawyer, you can find him, suited up and "running" some of the country's craziest whitewater environments. Thanks to Arkansas Wild Magazine for the opportunity to not only photograph, but even witness this guy in action. Enjoy. 

As I was driving through a town recently, I was struck by this building with no roof. I promptly stopped and parked. As I walked around the premises quietly surveying the remains, I realized that what it lacked in functionality it more than made up for in personality and character. As best I can tell, it was an old automotive store/shop. I'm not sure what happened to the roof, or portions of the actual building. But I can tell you that I felt right at home there. 

In lieu of being on the road all week, I'm sharing an image of the Buffalo River Valley from a few years back. I remember this day perfect, as I was alone and hiking through the woods on a cold, cloudy, and rather damp morning. Sometimes, those "less than perfect" conditions are in fact, the most conducive to a thought-provoking, inspiring and altogether, perfect day to be outside. Cheers to the weather in all seasons and to being outside regardless of it.

For years, I've had the idea in my head to make a video for Novo Studio. The idea for the video was inspired by a voicemail message I created years ago that, in my mind, accurately describes why I would not be answering my phone. And to have a video that started from the voicemail message and then, journeyed into my life as a photographer and as a person seemed to make sense. Plus, I could put some music to it and avoid the awkward challenge of talking about myself and my business. 

But of course, life happened and with an incredibly busy season and twins, my idea remained an idea until I decided to take a creative sabbatical. When writing out my sabbatical bucket list, the creation of this video went right to the top and with the help of my dear friends and creative colleagues and my wife, I am happy to (FINALLY) share this video with you. Many thanks to Bryan Fittin, Jason Miller, Murray Williams and Kristen Thomas for making this whole thing possible. Enjoy. 

Many probably don't know the true significance of this book. But after a college graphic design professor and advisor told me that I'd never make it as a graphic designer because of my lack of illustration ability, this graphic design project (which I received an A on) was my first foray into photography. Pursuing photography in my mind, would make up for my not being able to draw and thus ensure some sort of success in my chosen field of study. Though worn from travels and shuffles, this book still sits at my desk, reminding me of where I came from and that no one can tell me I'm a failure.

#throwbackthursday to many, many years ago when, during engagement photos, I decided to test the nautical and overland capabilities of the Novomobile. The resulting test ended up as a video which I am sharing today on the blog. Enjoy.  

Another blog post from the unpublished drafts section of the blog: These images were created at an event held last December by the University of Arkansas Art Department in collaboration with Arsega's at the Depot. All of the design elements (including menus, place settings, bowls, plates and glasses) were created by university students and the menu was prepared by Chef Patrick Lane, Head Chef at the restaurant. The event was a fundraiser for the Art Department and it was a huge success. 

Today is a very special #throwbackthursday. Pictured above is a book that was gifted to myself and my family by some dear friends and wedding clients when my kids were born. Inside, there is a special note written just for my son and daughter along with a very sweet card that they wrote to my wife and I. The book itself is an older photography textbook, complete with illustrations, graphs and very lengthy and thorough explanations of how the art is practiced. My kids may or may not ever grow up to be photographers but this book will always have a place on our bookshelf and the kind gesture of how it came to end up in our home will never be forgotten. Thanks Garrett and Whitney, you guys are the best. 

Part of my sabbatical plan is to update my website. And while working through some of these changes, it has come to my attention that there are some "unpublished drafts" in my blog.
