In this edition of “busy season craziness but here’s a recent work update”, we’ve got everything from farms, to pool parties, to cocktails, high-powered spray washers, hotel grand openings, moody portraits and even a possible Alexander Calder sculpture (verification pending). I’m sure we’ll do all this again in September. In the meantime, stay healthy, stay cool and stay awesome.

For many people (myself included), the idea of practicing Yoga can be intimidating and overwhelming. There are so many different types of Yoga, different poses, areas of focus, and reasons for even considering it and committing to it. Yoga is one of the few exercises that seems to bridge the gap between exercise, spirituality and self-awareness. And there's lots of options for Yoga teachers and studios in our area. So if you're interested in Yoga purely for the fitness aspect, make sure you focus your search accordingly. But if you are interested in Yoga because you are interested in discovering more about and connecting with your inner self, Meg Ryan Yoga is a great option.

As you may have guessed, Meg Ryan is not the same Meg Ryan you remember from movies such as Sleepless in Seattle and You've got Mail. She is also not your typical Yoga teacher. While her credentials read like equal parts professional yoga instructor and spiritual mystic, her practical, lighthearted personality will make your Yoga experiences valuable, enjoyable and most importantly, meaningful. Downtown Springdale Arkansas is on the upswing. There are a lot of new amenities, activities and establishments to explore. One such establishment that is definitely worth checking out is Medusa Bar & Grill. Think of it as an upscale Mexican Restaurant that serves elevated cuisines as well as honest takes on the classics. Traditional Mexican dishes sit alongside hamburgers and fried shrimp. Oysters (flown in from the coast) are served on ice with all the appropriate sauces you’d find at an establishment situated next to the ocean. The drink menu, like the food menu is diverse and unique, offering innovative Margaritas as well as a delicious smoked Old Fashioned. Come for Happy Hour and stay for dinner. Believe me, that would not be a bad decision at all.

This week on the blog: We’re featuring recent Commercial Photography work for Kansas City based Architecture firm, Slattery. The firm recently went through a brand re-design, changed their website and hired a few new people. And when such things happen, it is often a good time to bring your favorite photographer back for a visit.

This week on the blog, we’re featuring some images captured for Safety Culture featuring their sponsored Nascar Driver, Shane Van Gisbergen (aka SVG). Van Gisbergen, who hails from Auckland New Zealand (with the accent to match), has been racing professionally for a good number of years but only just starting in the Nascar circuit as of May 2023. I had the opportunity to follow a Safety Culture video crew around for an entire week, documenting the meticulous process of training, engineering, planning and also, the race itself. It was in fact, a blast. Here are a few photos from the week.

It was a hot, hot fun time working with The Solutions Group and Southern Cast Products, a Foundry located in Jonesboro Arkansas. The goal (besides not getting burned or melted), was to create some images for SCP’s new website, which recently launched. We spent 2 days walking the facility, making friends and capturing everyday life inside the foundry. The resulting images were used by The Solutions Group in the redesign of SCP’s website. Here’s a few favorites. Enjoy.

It is now November and the last time we updated the blog was after weeks and weeks of busyness and travel. It’s safe to say that aside from constant travel, things haven’t changed much. And for the most part, we’re not complaining. In fact recently, we had a first for the studio…live music. And that was so fun, we’ll be doing it again. But consistent photoshoots and video shoots followed by editing and managing those aforementioned shoots does create difficulties in keeping up with the normal, everyday tasks of managing and marketing a business. But today, we’re making time and space to share some images from the recent weeks. We sincerely hope that everyone is able to make some space to enjoy the cooler temperatures, the changing leaves, and life in general.

In almost 20 years of shooting full time Commercial Photography with Novo Studio, I have traveled quite a bit. But for the life of me, I cannot remember a time when I’ve traveled so consecutively for work. For the last 8 weeks, I’ve been gone in some capacity. This does not make me a professional traveler, but I feel compelled to share a bit about my experiences and lessons learned regardless. Since I’m not a professional traveler, I’ll keep my stories, my tips and my tricks short and sweet.

From the same brilliant minds that brought you Bar Cleeta comes a new restaurant concept called The Big Lieutenant. While the two concepts are totally different, they are in fact somewhat alike. Bar Cleeta and The Big Lieutenant are both BEAUTIFUL spaces, well thought out, and tastefully decorated. This week on the blog, we’re sharing a few images from Thaden School and The Scout Guide Northwest Arkansas. Every year, The Scout Guide features prominent businesses and institutions in the Northwest Arkansas area, one of which happens to be Thaden School. This year, Thaden commissioned us to spend some time on campus, visiting a curated selection of classes. Most notable, was the anatomy class where they happened to be dissecting sheep brains that day. As you can see from the below image, some students took drastic measures to avoid the….”peculiar odor.” (click to read more)

As a photographer, it’s easy to put Blake St. House into words; simply beautiful. For starters, it’s a well designed space with an abundance of natural light, high end decor and plenty of photogenic coziness. As a member of BlakeSt. however, it’s a bit more difficult to putting this fine establishment into words. It’s almost like you need to actually experience it to be able to understand it and even after the experience, I’m still not sure words are easy to come by. But to me anyway, the closest description I can conjure up, is that it just feels like home.

There is no shortage of pizza establishments in Northwest Arkansas. And that’s a good thing, because while most people will argue all day about their preferred toppings for pizza, everyone I’ve ever met (and this is a true statement) likes pizza. Some people even love it. I know I fall into this particular camp. I have my favorite places too. And thanks to a recent editorial photography assignment for Arkansas Times, I can safely, confidently and wholeheartedly add Pizzeria Ruby to my list of favorite pizza joints. (click to read more)

Spend enough time in Northwest Arkansas and you’re bound to hear someone mention Fox Trail Distillery. They’ll probably mention that Fox Trail is the only distillery in this area. And in the same breath, you’ll also probably hear that their drinks are delicious. And this person would be right on both accounts. What you may or may not hear from this person however, are some other subtle details which in my opinion, make Fox Trail even more of an experience than just a place to “grab a drink”. If you’re a photographer and you’ve had to work indoors in a building designed by Marlon Blackwell Architects, you can pretty much point your camera in any direction and make a good photograph. As you can imagine, the same could be said of photographing in their offices. With a website refresh on the horizon, they invited us to do just that.
